Sangli (Our hometown) is situated on the banks of the river Krishna. The Krishna River is one of the longest rivers in central-southern India, about 1,400 kilometers (870 mi).
The Krishna River is also the fourth longest river in India after the Ganga, the Godavari, and the Narmada.
The Krishna Valley Region is one of the most fertile lands for growing of various cash crops.
This region covers Sangli, Solapur, Pune, Satara, Latur and Osmanabad districts of Maharashtra; Bijapur, Bagalkot, Belgaum, Gulbarga districts of northern Karnataka, and Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Mahbubnagar, Anantapur, and Medak districts of Andhra Pradesh; lying between 15° and 20° N latitude.
This is the major viticultural region accounting for 70 percent of the area under grapes in the country.
Vines do not undergo dormancy and double pruning and a single harvest are the general practice in this region.
Maximum and minimum temperature is 42°C and 8°C, respectively.
Thompson Seedless and its clones (Tas-A-Ganesh, Sonaka), Anab-e-Shahi, Sharad Seedless and Flame Seedless are the varieties grown in this region.
The entire region of the Krishna river basin is ideal for growing grapes and the Valley areas around Sangli are conducive for raisins making.
Apart from Grapes / Raisins other cash crops like Turmeric, Chillies, Sugarcane, Soybean, Maize etc and fresh fruits like Pomegranate, Strawberry etc are the main crops of this region. forming a substantial part of the entire production of the country.
